Maile Yawata is a local artist who makes her creations out of materials such as clay, different types of paint including acrylic, oil, and casein, and Sculpy. Maile's work is included in the Artists of Hawaii 2015 exhibit at the Honolulu Museum of Art. Artists of Hawaii is a juried exhibit held every other year and is highly selective. The jury is made up of the museum director, deputy director, and curator of contemporary art. Out of 249 applicants, 8 were selected in 2014, a year before the exhibit. During that year, the curator of contemporary art, James Jensen, visited each studio to discuss with the artists their work in progress. Maybe also to make sure they'd have something to hang on the walls come July 2015! The exhibit is open from July 2nd to October 25th. Below are images of Maile's space, especially concentrating on her ceramic work.

From August 13 to November 8, 2015, the Museum of Art is exhibiting the best of its large collection of Korean ceramics. I've taken photos of all of the pieces and have taken more than one shot of many of them. The descriptions are the ones supplied by the museum. If you have any quibbles, take it up with them!
